My name is John Makara, and I am a musician and piano technician. I service pianos in western PA, primarily the Pittsburgh and Indiana areas. I am the music director/organist at Christ Lutheran Millvale. I enjoy playing bass, piano, and organ in musical pits and other ensembles.
I received my Master of Music in collaborative piano from Carnegie Mellon University, and Bachelor of Fine Arts in piano performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with an organ minor. I am learning piano technology under Heinz Hall piano technician, Peter Stumpf.
In spring 2025, I received the prestigious Gindroz Prize for Summer Travel and Study in Europe, where I spent two months in Slovakia studying traditional folk music.
